Description: This is a comprehensive course designed to prepare the student for high school science by introducing them to life, physical, and earth science concepts. A hands-on lab will be incorporated into most classes, and students will learn to create a lab report following the scientific method. This class is packed full of scientific facts, projects and group activities that reinforce science concepts, and help students to learn to work collaboratively. Our goal is to help students become more amazed by our Creator, who designed and cares about the tiniest detail of the vast world we live in, and to be able to think critically about how science is presented in our world today. We desire that not only will students leave this class well prepared for high school science courses, but also with a curiosity about the mysteries of this world that God has in store for us to discover! We use a three-year rotation of books, so students may enter as 6th graders and take this class until they are ready for High School Biology and High School Physical Science. Homework, labs, and a variety of quiz assessments will be given each week with a test every 3-4 weeks. We will start with the From Bacteria to Plants book in August.

Description: Step into the fascinating and exciting world of living things! Each week students will have the privilege of doing a hands-on lab such as microscopy, pig dissection, bacteriology, pathology, resting heart rate, testing lung capacity, and much more. Few Biology courses in the Chattanooga area offer such extensive hands-on labs every week. That’s over 30 college preparatory labs happening in one year. Research, presentations, projects, debates, discussions, and fun labs make this class a Hilger favorite. Homeschool parents consistently tell us that it is hard to be successful in setting up labs at home. Let us do the prep work for you. Homework will be given each week, while tests are given every four weeks and a comprehensive final exam at the end of each semester. Our students are fully prepared for whatever science class they move on to next.
