Sandra Coleman

American Sign Language I & II

Sandra grew up in Ooltewah, TN. After meeting a deaf person, Jesse, for the first time in 1988, she was motivated to learn sign language. She learned quickly from Jesse and his mother. In December 1992, she earned an Associates of Arts in Sign Language Interpretation from TN Temple University. In May 1993, she and Jesse were married. Since then, she has interpreted in various settings including doctor appointments, deacons' meetings, nonprofit board meetings, college classes, and church services to name a few. She took a break from work while their family grew to include 11 children. They have homeschooled all of the children with #6 graduating this past May. Sandra has worked for a video relay service interpreting phone calls for the deaf for the past 14 years. She has a desire to teach others to communicate with the deaf, which is a great need today. This skill can be used in the future regardless the career path the student chooses. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." - I Corinthians 10:31
