Instructor: Tina Holcombe
Cost: $31 per month + $20 registration fee
Book: A $10 fee for music will be charged to your first month’s bill (this will cover the entire year).
Description: The goal of this class is to increase students’ capacity for joy in music and encourage a lifetime of loving music. Our hope is that as students develop an understanding of their voices and music in general singing will become more comfortable and fun. We will explore the concepts of rhythm, pitch, note-reading, and music appreciation in a fun and friendly environment. Students will enjoy singing a wide range of musical styles and genres as well as learning to work together as a choir. Large motor skills, ear-training, correct vocal placement, mathematical concepts, reading skills, and mental retention are all exercised and improved upon as the year progresses. No prior musical experience is required. Students will participate in concerts at the end of each semester. What a fun way to learn! “Early musical training helps develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning. It is thought that brain development continues for many years after birth. Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language.” (Carolyn Phillips, Twelve Benefits of Music Education.)

Description: Middle School Choir provides an opportunity for Middle School Students to participate in a choir. This format is excellent for the developing young voices at an important time of vocal development, as we often offer group voice lessons during class periods. Our performances and classes are educational, unifying and fun. Students improve musical and vocal skills (becoming comfortable and secure in part singing), while cultivating close friendships among their fellow singers. No prior musical experience is required. We will study music history and appreciation through class work, games, and listening CDs. Music theory, sight-singing, and rhythm drills will be regular components of the class. “Music classes offer many benefits which make them very indispensable. Performance programs enhance a student’s sense of self-esteem as well as their social skills. Students become a part of a positive group and organization. Not only do students profit socially from music programs, but they also gain academically.” (Resource: The College Board)
