Description: While most people think of physical science in and for middle school, this is a comprehensive, college-prep Physical Science course to prepare the student for Chemistry and Physics. With this being our first “math based” high school science class, we recommend this course be taken before Chemistry and Physics. Our Physical Science class is not a junior high level physical science you would normally equate with physical science. Also, if your child struggled in Algebra I we highly recommend this class before Chemistry. Description: This course covers the math basics and prepares the student for Algebra I. We will introduce algebraic concepts to the basics of math learned in middle school. Description: World Literature transports students around the globe and through time to experience the culture, history, and creative endeavors of many people! Description: Almost every literary genre used today was invented by the Greeks and passed on to the Romans. Ancient Greek and Roman literature has influenced modern language, industry, culture, and the arts. We use ancient references weekly: a “herculean task” refers to the strongman Hercules and the story of his 12 Labors; the drug morphine obtained its name from Morpheus, the Greek God of Sleep; a Trojan computer virus is a direct reference to the classic tale of the Trojan Horse. This course will guide students through major classical works from a biblical perspective, and it will expose students to the contemporary influences of ancient literature. Description: This class will outline the differences between Christianity and the other prominent worldviews vying for allegiance in Western culture. Some of the issues covered include: abortion, the arts, biotechnology, cults, euthanasia, leadership, radical environmentalism, radical feminism, the problem of evil, religious pluralism, scriptural reliability, and more. On a broader scale, students will delve into Postmodernism, Secular Humanism, parts of New Age and Islam. Description: Economics will present an interesting, logical, uncomplicated examination of comparative economic systems and the laws/principles that govern them. We will build a case for free-market capitalism as the economic system most compatible with a Biblical worldview and consider it in the current battle of ideas for the global economy. We will also consider the consequences of popular economic myths/fallacies. Description: This course is an excellent introduction to the arts through two and three dimensional media. Students will explore God’s beauty, majesty and creativity through learning the elements of design and examples in art history. Some projects will comprise still life, self portraits, painting, print-making, 3D design with sculpture, typography, and clay! Various materials will include pencil, markers, charcoal, pastels, inks, paint, found objects and clay! Students will learn about movements in art history and study the techniques, while also studying the contemporary art world from a Biblical perspective. Projects and art experiences required outside of class will further each student’s learning. Additionally, students will learn more about color, form and composition through each media. Students will also be taught how to discuss art in class, express their individual creativity and explain what they have created.

Description: This class provides a well-rounded musical curriculum of vocal technique, music history/appreciation, basic theory, ear-training and stage presence. Vocal repertoire, music history and appreciation, rhythm drills, sight-singing and music theory will be addressed each week. Our retreats, performances and field trips are fun and educational. Friendships are developed and strengthened throughout the year. Cultural appreciation for the arts is cultivated through attendance of concerts and musical presentations. Many of our high school students go on to study music at the collegiate level with some able to exempt certain freshman courses and/or obtain music scholarships. All of our high school choir members leave high school with a love for music and its Creator and fond memories of experiences with their fellow students. “Several studies have confirmed that music directly enhances learning through increased spatial development. Description: Is your student equipped with the test-taking tools needed to confidently complete the ACT? This workshop will introduce your student to 3 of the 4 major sections involved in the ACT, while giving strategies to tackle each one. The primary focus of the workshop will address the English, reading, and science portions of the test. The math section will be administered in our “Math Focus” ACT workshop. Students will have the opportunity to work on accuracy and speed with the English, reading and science sections. The book also provides 2 full length ACT tests and 1 on-line test. If you child is taking High School Art on Monday, from 1:25 – 2:50pm, we will allow them to leave a couple minutes early during these 6 weeks.

Students will review concepts from Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II that are covered on the ACT as well as learn math test-taking strategies to help improve their score. Students will have the opportunity to work on accuracy and speed for the math section of the test. The book also provides 2 full length ACT tests and 1 on-line test.
