Description: Does your child love experiments and science labs? This course will excite any young child by introducing them to God's creation using an exciting new series of books, by Jeannie Fulbright, through Apologia. We are following a four year rotation of books in this series. This year's book is Land Animals of the 6th Day. Other books to be used in the following years include: Astronomy, Flying Creatures of the 5th Day (we used in the 2009-2010 year) and Exploring Creation with Botany (we used in the 2010-2011 year). We will also supplement each year with a unit study on systems of the human body. We will include new material on the human body each of the four years in the rotation. Students will participate in a hands-on lab every week, along with a Science Fair at the end of the year. In order to begin developing accountability, a small amount of homework will be assigned each week. Also, in order to give the young student a chance to develop their test taking skills, tests are given every four to five weeks in a very relaxed classroom environment.

Description: This course will take your student on a reading adventure! Play soccer with kids in Haiti; learn about friendship with a mouse named Humphrey; save a burning forest with a boy and his horse; climb aboard Ralph the mouse’s motorcycle; and experience Thanksgiving through the eyes of a young Pilgrim and an Indian. Students will develop reading comprehension skills and increase their vocabulary as we conquer books together. Students will also complete various writing assignments related to the different books they read.
*This literature course will also offer an optional Advanced Reading Program to be completed by reading books other than the ones assigned. The Advanced Reading Program will not affect the child's grade, but it is a wonderful way to celebrate the adventures of reading.

Description: This class provides an encouraging environment for a student to develop the science and art of his or her writing! Students use their own interests (soccer, sewing, skateboarding, cooking, horseback riding, fishing, ballet, etc.) as the topics of organized writing assignments. Description: This class reviews basic concepts and vocabulary of conversational Spanish for those who have had previous classes, but is also foundational enough for newcomers beginning at the middle school level. We will cover new material from the textbook as well as supplemental sources, including helpful websites. Correct pronunciation and fundamentals of the language are reinforced through creative assignments, games, storybook reading, interactive group activities and special reports, bringing Spanish to life and creating a connection beyond grammar and vocabulary. Students will explore God’s beauty and majesty as they learn elements of design and explore examples in art history. Some projects will comprise still life, self portraits, painting, print-making, 3D design with sculpture, typography, and clay. Various materials will include pencil, markers, charcoal, pastels, inks, paint, found objects and clay! Projects and art experiences required outside of class will further each student’s learning. Students will grow in expressing their individual God given creativity, while also being able to explain what they have created.

Description: Journey through the land of imagination to explore theater in a truly sensational way! This course looks at drama holistically as we help students use their mind, body, emotions and spirit to explore the dramatic arts! Beginning with our imaginations, we implement fun and creative workshops to develop and build on the fundamentals of theater, such as: scene setting, expression, proper breathing, and character analysis. Students will become familiar with the many functions of a working theater and what it takes to make a successful theatrical production as they prepare for and present a play during the spring semester. Of note, a small number (10-12) of limited spots are available.
Course: Elementary Choir and Music Appreciation
Grade Level: 3-6 (advanced 6th graders are encouraged to take our middle school ensemble)

Description: This class is foundational for a lifetime of loving music. We will explore the concepts of rhythm, pitch, note-reading, and music appreciation in a fun and friendly environment. Students will enjoy playing instruments, singing songs from all over the world and learning to work together as a choir. Large motor skills, ear-training, correct vocal placement, mathematical concepts, reading skills and mental retention are all exercised and improved upon as the year progresses. Students and their families are offered field trip opportunities throughout the year and will participate in performances throughout the community. What a fun way to learn!
